Hurricane DEBBY, formed in the Gulf of Mexico is approaching the north-western coast of Florida and it is gaining strength. On 5 August at 6.00 UTC, its centre is about 71 km south-west of Steinhatchee town (Florida) with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h (hurricane).
On the forecast track, DEBBY will make landfall over the Florida Big Bend coast in late morning. After that, it is expected to move slowly across northern Florida and southern Georgia on late 5 August and 6 August and be near the Georgia coast by on the night of 6 August.
On 5-7 August, heavy rain and strong winds are forecast across portions of central and northern Florida and southeastern North Carolina.
A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for the Florida coast from the middle of Longboat Key northward to Indian Pass including Tampa Bay, over Georgia and South Carolina coast from the Mouth of the St. Mary's River to South Santee River South Carolina. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the Florida coast from the Yankeetown to Indian Pass.
