• Hurricane DEBBY, formed in the Gulf of Mexico is approaching the north-western coast of Florida and it is gaining strength. On 5 August at 6.00 UTC, its centre is about 71 km south-west of Steinhatchee town (Florida) with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h (hurricane).
• On the forecast track, DEBBY will make landfall over the Florida Big Bend coast in late morning. After that, it is expected to move slowly across northern Florida and southern Georgia on late 5 August and 6 August and be near the Georgia coast by on the night of 6 August.
• On 5-7 August, heavy rain and strong winds are forecast across portions of central and northern Florida and southeastern North Carolina. 
• A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for the Florida coast from the middle of Longboat Key northward to Indian Pass including Tampa Bay, over Georgia and South Carolina coast from the Mouth of the St. Mary's River to South Santee River South Carolina. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the Florida coast from the Yankeetown to Indian Pass.

• Heavy rainfall has been affecting central and western Chad since mid-May, causing floods, which have resulted in casualties and damage.
• The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports, as of 1 August, nine deaths, including three children, 15,558 affected people and 4,642 affected houses across Batha, Chari-Baguirmi, Logone Oriental, Mayo-Kebbi Ouest, Lake and Kanem provinces. In addition, several roads have been blocked.
• Over the next 48 hours, more rainfall is forecasted over central and southern Chad, with locally very heavy rainfall in the eastern part of the country.

• Heavy rainfall has been affecting Sichuan Province in south-central China since 3 August, causing floods and triggering landslides that have resulted in casualties and damage.
• According to media reports, as of 4 August, eight people died, 19 are still missing, and 939 people have been affected by flash floods and landslides in Ridi Village, in Kangding county in the Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture (Sichuan province). In addition, several houses and bridges have been destroyed.
• On 5-6 August, more heavy rainfall, with locally very heavy rainfall, is still forecasted over central and southern China.

• On August 4, heavy rainfall affected the Hanoi and Lang Son provinces (northern Vietnam), causing floods, triggering landslides, and resulting in casualties and damage.
• According to the ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet), two people died, and more than 5,200 people have been affected, as well as 785 houses.
• For the next 24 hours, moderate rainfall is expected across the affected provinces.
